Reception

In Reception, we continue to build on the child’s previous learning and understanding through fun, yet structured activities.  The children are encouraged to explore their own interests and develop their independence and skills of self-regulation.

Each half term, our learning journey inspires the children to engage and learn through a range of different activities. A typical week also includes daily literacy and numeracy sessions, a learning journey, French, music computing, art and a variety of sports including ball skills, gymnastics, athletics and swimming. Throughout the year the children experience a variety of trips, visitors and workshops to enhance their learning; for example, a visit to Bodiam castle during our fairy-tale topic.

Children develop communication and language skills alongside reading and writing. Key texts and stories are used to ignite the children’s imagination and provide inspiration for English activities. Stories, rhymes and songs are used to develop these skills in Early Years. We have daily phonic sessions which are individually tailored to the needs of each child.

EYEE funding for children in Reception

From September 2023 we will continue to offer EYEE funding where your child can receive up to 15 hours of EYEE funding per week until the term after your child turns five. This means that most children will be able to benefit from this funding for some/majority of their Reception year.
