Introducing the Year 8 Support Squad; a dedicated session delivering peer support to benefit pupils in the Prep School.
What is Peer Support?
Peer Support uses the knowledge, skills and experience of children and young people in a structured way to help them develop their understanding, confidence and self-awareness.
Students who feel part of the school community and who can develop positive relationships with their peers, generally feel happier and more able to cope with stress factors in their lives, such as exam pressure, anxiety, or friendship difficulties.
How do we deliver Peer Support?
Our new weekly Year 8 Support Squad sessions enable pupils at MHS to build connections, help each other understand how they have come to know what they know, redefine help as co-learning and develop the strength, confidence and resilience to move towards what they want, rather than away from the things they don’t want. The younger children within our community will benefit from this by recognising that they are not alone; they can express their feelings, learn helpful information, gain hope and help others.
Some of the activities available during Support Squad sessions this term will be:
- Origami
- Circle Time Games
- Rangoli Patterns
- Litter Pickers
- Sing Song
- Seasonal Crafts
- Hoola Hooping………to name just a few!
