I hope you are all well. I am eagerly anticipating my jab in the next few weeks and I know that many of you are all jabbed up and ready to go!
Although the Government’s new regulations are much slower than most musicians were expecting (there was a real hope that we might get back to some performances from Easter), nevertheless we do at least have a clear framework from which we can move forward.
It is hard to believe that we can now start thinking positively about returning to concerts. I know that music agents and their artists are currently engaged in a tremendously complex exercise in re-re-scheduling events.
As a consequence, I have been working hard to get as many performances in as possible and those we cannot fit in will be fitted in next season.
This is the latest information and my apologies as you will need to alter your calendars once again! I really do hope it will be the last time this season, although past experience leads me to retain a healthy degree of scepticism.
- The following concerts from March/April have now been cancelled:
European Union Chamber Orchestra – March 13th.
Heath Quartet – April 10th
Bennewitz Quartet and Finghin Collins -April 24th.
These three concerts have been re-scheduled into next season, so I’m delighted to say we won’t miss any of them. You will be credited with any payments you have made and this can be set-off against your bookings for next season. If you decide that you would prefer a refund, then that is also possible. I will be making the calculations about how much we owe you later on when things are more certain and you will get an email giving you the details.
- The following two concerts have been re-scheduled to be in the current season.
Roderick Williams and Friends. I’m delighted to say that owing to an event in Berlin with Sir Simon Rattle being cancelled, it means that we can enjoy Roderick’s recital which we should have heard in February. It will be on Saturday 29th May at 3.00 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. We are still on socially-distanced split performances in May – though the regulations are less clear about how distanced we are, but we shall do as required and I will send out ticket numbers to all who have booked and paid by email closer to the concert.
London Brandenburg Ensemble. This was originally on May 8th, which falls irritatingly just before the regulation change over date. This has now been re-scheduled to SUNDAY JUNE 26th at 7.30 p.m.
This is after the final regulations come in and will (subject to any new conditions coming from Government) be our first entirely normal concert! Yes… there will be Pimms! You will receive your ticket numbers by email before the concert.
- Daniel Lebhardt. Daniel’s concert on Saturday June 5th will go ahead as planned, but will be divided into a 3.00 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. performance as it falls before the final June regulation changeover date. I will use your existing indications to allocate you either 3.00 p.m. or 7.30 p.m. but there will be some flexibility to change closer to the time. You will receive your ticket numbers by email before the concert.
Daniel has just had a performance from Wigmore Hall which has been live-streamed on 24th February, which is available https://wigmore-hall.org.uk/watch-listen/live-stream
I do hope this is the last time I shall have to write to you with alterations of dates, though there will be several e-mails to come with reminders, ticket details and any regulations which need to be imparted concerning distancing, masks and other such matters.
There may be some ticket availability for these concerts. One or two people who reserved Roderick Williams tickets are still needing to send me a cheque or transfer by BACS. Please email if you would like tickets.
I do hope that with the much-reduced incident of covid in this whole area, coupled with the jabs, we will be able to welcome back a few of our regulars who have felt uneasy about attending. Please let me know if you would like to start coming again.
I very much look forward to welcoming you back to Vinehall on May 28th for Roderick Williams and Friends. Please do amend your calendars straight away, as I would not wish you to get double-booked and miss one of the most internationally renowned performers we have had at Vinehall.
With my best wishes
Geoffrey A.G. Whitehead
