Thursday 27th January marks International Holocaust Remembrance Day and, on this annual day of commemoration, the United Nations urges countries to honour the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and millions of other victims of Nazism and to develop educational programmes to help prevent future genocides.

This week, in Year 7’s English classes on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we reflected on the meaning and impact of the Holocaust.  It is fitting that today, having completed their reading of “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas” (which they have been studying in both their English and Drama lessons), Year 7 watched the film in the Chaplin Theatre.  They watched with great reverence and sympathy and behaved impeccably.  We hope that this opportunity helped our Year 7 pupils to reflect on the lives lost during this terrible time of persecution, cruelty and despair.
