Marcus Rashford may recently have made reading (and writing) cool but there are a lot of distractions in today’s world to getting stuck into a book.  Social media, gaming, prep, household chores – there are many things which may hold children back and stop them from reading.

We are encouraging all children in the Prep School to read (aloud and on their own) this term with the added incentive for some groups of hot chocolate every now and again (our Book Club for Years 5 and 6 is bursting at the seams and has never been so popular)!

Some of our Year 6, 7 and 8 pupils are reading books in order to review and recommend them to others. Their reviews will be published in due course on our notice board in the Main Library. Our Year 5s are loving their private reading sessions where they can get lost within the pages of a book and earn bronze, silver and gold reading stars for books read.

There is strong evidence that children feel that encouragement from school and home is crucial to their enjoyment of reading. So, at home, please do read books with, around and for children!
