On Monday, those selected to represent Vinehall travelled to Hurst to compete in track and field events. The weather was fantastic and the organisation that went into hosting this event was outstanding. There was much positive feedback from live streaming the event, and credit to Hurst for providing this alternative way for parents to be able to view. I imagine there was a lot of cheering at the screen and rightly so because there was much to celebrate from the day.

In the individual events:

Henry C 1st place U11 800m. This is no easy race especially in the heat, but he took an early lead and kept it throughout. An amazing achievement.

Yoshi C 3rd place U11 200m. Yoshi came second in his heat and he had the third best time going into the final. Another fantastic result.

Jamie M 4th place U10 600m. This is a fantastic result considering Jamie is in Year 3 and would be running against boys in Year 4. This bodes well for next year.

Harvey P 4th place in U10 Discus. Again another great result for a Year 3 boy competing against boys a year older.

The relays:

It is pleasing to report that all three teams entered into the relay qualified from their heats for the finals.

The U11 Boys were obstructed in the heat, but thankfully qualified with the 8th best time. They then went into the final and improved on their position to finish 6th. Well done to Henry C, Max C, Joshua S and Yoshi C.

U10 Girls also qualified with the 8th best time. A few tweaks and areas to tidy up improved their final race and improved their position by finishing 7th. Well done to Frankie F, Alara K, Honor H and Cecily G.

U10 Boys: all four boys in this team are Year 3 running up against Year 4 boys. They finished 3rd in their heat and had the third best time going into the final. They finished 4th in the final, just missing out on 3rd. However, this is an outstanding achievement for a team so young and competing for the first time in athletics. Next year will be very exciting when they compete in their age group. Well done to Harvey P, Jamie M, Masa M and Charlie C.

It was a fantastic day and a great opportunity to showcase Vinehall’s talented athletes. We are very proud of our athletes as their effort  and attitude is exemplary. Bring on 2022!
