Vinehall pupils gave it some welly today as many pupils put on their glad rags to continue our celebrations of World Book Day! In Year 6, the sun shone brightly on an eclectic collection of characters including Miss Trunchball (from Matilda), Cruel Clarissa (from The World’s Worst Children), James Bond and Fantastic Mr Fox (who need no introduction), Toothless (from How to Train your Dragon), Willy Wonka and Charlie Bucket (from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory), the Clockwork Crow (Catherine Fisher) and Wish (from “The Wizards of Once”) among others!
In class the children loved watching videos of various teachers reading extracts from books, including appearances from Mr Powis as “The Demon Headmaster”, Mrs Everist and Mrs Barrett as Oompa Loompas reading a fabulous extract in praise of books from “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and Mrs Alderson reading (from her bathtub!) as Mrs Large, the elephant, in “Five Minutes’ Peace”.
If you want five minutes’ peace from your children these Easter holidays, be sure to take them to their local bookshop when non-essential shops reopen (from 12th April) where they can spend time choosing their (free!) book worth £1! (Book tokens were handed out to children in the Prep and Pre-Prep Schools today).
If your child is not yet addicted to reading, come and talk to Mrs Platt (Head of English) or Mrs McKnight (Head of Pre-Prep) about how you can get your child hooked on books. (In her video, Mrs McKnight takes a lovely turn about her garden in full T-Rex costume before she reads from “Tyrannosaurus Drip” by Julia Donaldson!)
Our fantastic Aussie gappers are creating a compilation (to be released shortly) with the best bits from the book videos for pupils and parents to view – watch this space!
Thank you so much to all the staff and pupils for showing such flamboyant fancy dress spirit this Friday. Thank you also to all of those members of staff who have created videos of them reading books for World Book Day. The English teachers have loved showing these videos to their classes!
