Years 3 and 4 were asked to ‘not think’ but just respond. The idea was to produce a series of automatic drawings. They listened to different genres of music and drew accordingly, reacting to the sounds they could hear.

When presented with ‘Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony’, the pupils drew with vigour and sweeping lines. As a response to a musical excerpt from the film ‘Avatar’, they drew slowly and gently.

For the final piece of music, they listened to ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams. They were asked to draw just shapes and lines, avoiding any obvious representation. Only during the last drawing, could they then add images and hopefully end the session feeling positive.
