Year 3 popped out to visit Mountfield Church this week, as part of their exploration into local history. They were lucky enough to have a tour and talk by Jackie Spriggs, organist and former vicar’s wife. Harold Spriggs was also Vinehall school chaplain and their son was a pupil here many years ago. Jackie is always so welcoming to the pupils of Vinehall and we are grateful to her for giving up her time to show us around.
Much excitement for standing in the pulpit ensued and the ancient bell was rung by one of the Year 3s! Those children who have piano lessons climbed into the organ loft and watched as Jackie turned it on and gave us a few bars of a jolly tune! Mrs E was impressed that the children had remembered many names of the parts of the church from last week’s visit to our own Vinehall chapel. Mountfield Church is steeped in history and well worth a visit if you have not already been; look closely at the beautiful stained glass window and spot the red tractor in the corner – there lies a story which some of 3E may recall well enough to tell you!
