Little Vines Nursery invited parents in to Pre-Prep to talk about how we prepare our children for their formal school years.

The afternoon was aimed at sharing the ideas, activities and curriculum that take place in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).  Mrs Wolford felt it was important for parents to understand the concepts and planning that are behind activities such as playdough/sand/water/shaving foam etc. Whilst still a lot of fun, these activities have a real purpose and meaning for our young children and give them an opportunity to explore the foundations of learning.

Our wonderful N&KG staff had taken time to create individual workstations to showcase the ways in which our children structure their learning through play.  Parents were invited to create cornflour and conditioner salt dough,  to delve into the sea to discover creatures and treasures hidden in amongst the spaghetti waves and to play in the baby spa – all activities designed to promote physical and social development.

Primarily the idea is to ‘teach’ our parents that learning through play and interacting with our children will provide the foundations for life.  Little Vines Nursery staff also addressed the fact that every child is unique and that we provide challenges to ensure each child builds resilience and self-confidence, as well as being respectful of others.

Of particular importance are ‘The Characteristics of Effective Learning.’ These are the ways in which children engage with other people and their environment. They include, playing and exploring, active learning, and creating and thinking critically, these underpin learning and development across all areas and support children to remain an effective and motivated learner.

We are always happy to talk to parents or prospective parents and help them with any questions they may have. For a copy of the EFYS handout please see the document below.
