On Wednesday morning Year 5 went to Bridgepoint in Rye to look at the Hastings Tapestries Project.
These are 27 panels made in 1966 by the Royal Society of Embroiderers, which represent 900 chronological years of British history from 1066 to 1966. We were all very impressed by the tapestries; they are incredibly intricate and well preserved.
The children enjoyed looking at this historical secondary source and they asked thoughtful questions, as well as showing their knowledge by answering questions about key historical events, including the Gunpowder Plot and the Plague. I thoroughly recommend a visit here on their final weekend, the 12th and 13th October, before they are taken away and placed into storage again.
