Year 3 have spent the last two weeks learning two texts from memory. They performed these at our final assembly in a packed theatre in front of their parents, Year 2 and the whole Prep School. The first piece, ‘Oran Mor’, or ‘How the world began’, a Celtic myth, created some beautiful atmospheric moments of magic. The children used body percussion and instruments, coloured scarves and a range of vocal dynamics to vary the tone of this poetic text. Thanks must go to Dr Moore who helped to add to the dramatic mood with clever use of lighting.
Next was ‘Tiddler’, by Julia Donaldson. This was completely different – a lot of fun and in rhyme, with all the children as little fish in Miss Skate’s class (Isobel F) and starring Kingsley N as Tiddler, with his faithful friend, Little Johnny Dory (Miles F). Year 3 were amazing and astounded everyone with their expressive solos and group work.
The children were judged on their public speaking by Director of Drama, Mary Alderson, who was delighted to tell them they had achieved a “distinction”. Very, very well done to all, from a super proud Mrs E and Mrs H.
