After a busy few weeks of athletic competitions, the results were in from the regionals … Vinehall had six competitors qualifying for seven events at the National Finals at the Alexander Stadium.

Jon Newman and Nick Butcher took the children up to Birmingham the night before and, after a restful night, made their way to the stadium for the day’s events.

With Izzy S, Will S, Reus B, Will H, Melisa A and Zuriel N ready for their individual events, it was a full day of races and competition. All of the children tried their absolute best and we were delighted to be awarded 8th, 7th, 6th and 4th places.

However, the season was topped off by the news that Melisa A had jumped 10.32m in the triple jump, gaining a Silver medal for the U14 girls. Jon Newman was delighted to report that this jump smashed the previous Sussex record (also set by a Vinehall girl).

Further good news was received when Zuriel N jumped a personal best of 4.96m in the long jump, which earned him the U13 boys’ silver medal.

Well done to all of our athletes for another fantastic season.
