The season started with the usual trip to Dulwich Prep for a track only event in which we came second by only one point! We had some excellent early season performances from all age groups.
The following week the seniors went to Bede’s to compete on the all-weather track at Eastbourne and this gave us some more early pointers for future success.
The Tonbridge Trophy is a competition in which we have done well in the past and this year we managed 6th place out of 13 with fewer athletes to choose from. This was still a creditable result.
The Sussex Championships for the juniors was held at Hurstpierpoint College and with stiff competition we only managed two bronze medals for Rupert S in the 330m and Finlay D in the high jump.
The senior Sussex Championships at K2 provided the opportunity for our senior athletes to fulfil their potential and training. Successes came from Zuriel N in the long jump and 100m, Izzy S in the 200m, Melisa A in the triple jump and Will S in the 300m, who won their events to become Sussex Champions enabling them to represent Sussex at the Nationals. Joining them will be Reus B in the 800m and Will H in the shot-putt, who also qualified.
Another successful season, including a great sports day, saw many of our athletes achieve personal bests and had the opportunity to compete at the highest levels. We have maintained our status locally and nationally by having representatives at the National Championships (six pupils in seven events). We hope all have been inspired by the success and kudos this brings to our school and we look forward to continuing the success of athletics in the coming years.
