Having successfully competed in the first round of the Young Mathematicians Award, Vinehall’s team of four reached the Regional Finals which they took part in on Wednesday this week.

The competition ran along similar lines to the first round, but with a more challenging and complex problem to solve.

Francesca, Matilda, Henry and Bertie decided that since team work was one of the attributes that was being assessed they would move the furniture around and sit in a circle rather than the straight line of desks provided! They proceded to show great resilience in completing a very challenging task and not giving up before the end of the competition.

I have to say they looked absolutely exhausted as I took them back to Vinehall and were very quiet on the way home.

We eagerly await results at the end of this week to see whether a team from our region will go through to the National Final to be held at Cambridge University which is very exciting.

Well done to Francesca, Matilda, Henry and Bertie for using their mathematical knowledge, collaborative working and resilience to do so well in the competition and many thanks to their families for supporting them.
