On Friday 9th November 2018, Vinehall pupils and staff gathered in the Chaplin Theatre for the most beautiful service of Remembrance. We were very pleased to welcome the utterly charming Father Michael Brydon to lead this special service in prayer and contemplation for those brave servicemen and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Year 8 pupils gave a moving rendition of ‘Only Remembered’ and recalled the WWI Christmas truce when opposing armies shared a moment of peace by playing football on no-man’s land between the horror of the trenches. Seated amongst them were two ‘There but not there’ soldiers to add to the very respectful atmosphere. Our excellent cellists played ‘Silent Night’ and Year 5 pupils delivered a poem on Evacuee children. Leo A, Mary KB and Thomas S played the Last Post and Reveille with huge skill and the congregation sat perfectly silent for a minute of remembrance. Isabel T moved the entire congregation with her wonderful performance of ‘Schindler’s List’ as Father Michael, Joff Powis and our Headboy and Headgirl laid the wreaths ‘Lest we Forget’.
We are hugely grateful to Debbie Gearey and Sue Glossop for organising the service and to Tracey Konyu for the poppy display around the Union Jack.
