Back to the time of Lord & Lady Ashton with Mrs Chaplin and Year 3
Before Vinehall became a school in 1938 it was owned by Lord Ashton, a wealthy philanthropist who made his money from making cotton nappies! This was just one of the little gems that Mrs Chaplin relayed to Year 3 when she kindly visited and toured the school last week. The children were transported back to the days when there were butlers, scullery maids and a cook – rather like Downton Abbey in fact! Before she left, Mrs Chaplin commented on how astute the children’s questions were and how thoughtful their answers. Cassie Cat and Ollie Owl would be proud, as was Mrs E.
Thank you, Mrs Chaplin, we loved your visit.
