During the Summer Term, Vinehall artists created their own flip-flops  from recycled materials. The theme given to them was ‘The Ocean’.

It quickly became apparent that it is very difficult not to use plastic.  However, all pupils rose to the challenge by creating some eye-catching footwear from recycled carpet underlay made from old plastic bottles. They embellished their designs with whatever they could find around the art room. They also thought about how much we use in terms of resources. The pupils were surprised to discover how many tons of waste turn up on the world’s beaches, including thousands of pairs of flip flops!

Year 7 presented the project in this powerful image but all pupils were involved in making the flip-flops.
