On Tuesday 13th March 2018 our budding thespians welcomed their friends and family to share some of our Lent Term drama club activities.
In preparation for the upcoming scholarship assessments, the early part of the term was dedicated to general drama skills; we focused first on exercises based around ‘Macbeth’ and then the topic of ‘Secrets’, looking at movement, script extracts, improvisation, tableaux, characterisation and dramatic interpretation of images.
The latter part of the term was dedicated to mask work; I was extremely fortunate to participate in a recent training course with Trestle Theatre and have purchased a set of their wonderful masks for the department. The children were wonderfully receptive to this totally new way of working without reliance on dialogue or facial expression and the results were hugely entertaining and creative.
However, drama club isn’t drama club without finishing with a game, so the children subjected their sporting visitors to a round of ‘Splat!’
