All Around the Globe
Debbie Gearey and I were privileged to spend a wonderful day with our Scholars. We travelled up to London by train and then wandered through Borough Market to the South Bank, past the Golden Hinde and along to the Globe Theatre. After a coffee stop we met Mike, who was to be our guide to the Theatre and our workshop leader. The pupils were fascinated by his grisly and very entertaining tales of Elizabethan England and the history of Shakespeare’s Globe.
His workshop in a rehearsal studio was great fun and very informative, so we felt more prepared for the performance ahead. As ‘Groundlings’ we queued up to enter the pit area for the special schools’ performance of ‘Much Ado About Nothing’. 90 minutes of laughter, brilliant acting, music, dance, intrigue, fighting and audience participation were not dampened by a spot of rain!
We were delighted by, and complimented on, the impeccable behaviour of this lovely group of children; we hope they enjoyed the day as much as we did.
