Vinehall were very fortunate to welcome the Bloodhound SSC team to the school to take part in several workshops and assemblies ahead of their Land Speed Record attempt.

The Bloodhound Education team visited the school to present an assembly and three workshops, one each for Years 6, 7 and 8. This sits perfectly with their Maths, Science, ICT and DT curriculum and culminated in a final whole school assembly ‘wrap up’. In the workshop the children designed, tested and built cars using K’nex which they raced in the Sports Hall.

Shortly after their visit to us, on 26th October 2017, Wing Commander Andy Green, current holder of the World Land Speed Record, will drive BLOODHOUND SSC for the first time at Cornwall Airport Newquay, putting it through its paces. The runway trials will mark the culmination of a month of tests to prove the car’s steering, brakes, suspension and data systems, as well as the EJ200 jet engine, sourced from a Eurofighter Typhoon.

The winning Vinehall teams from in each age group will have their team names on the BLOODHOUND car and the overall winners will have their individual names included as well – what an honour!

Mr Tom Gregory said “This is a wonderful opportunity for the children and one about which we are very excited. It will be fascinating to hear the story so far and follow what will be an incredible achievement”.
