Interview with Housemistress Quelli Coles

Ahead of National Boarding Day we asked Vinehall’s Housemistress to answer a few questions:

I became Housemistress after being Matron at Vinehall for six years; it felt like a natural transition.  I knew the children, laundry, nurse and school very well!  Gideon joined me as weekend Housemaster after a year.  He was used to helping with mountain biking club and was here with me already. He loves working with the children.

In my opinion the most essential qualities required of a Houseparent are patience, caring, understanding and a sense of fun!

There have been many memorable moments during my time here, especially achieving‘outstanding’ in our inspection which was gratifying recognition for all of the staff’s hardwork.  Last summer the children made a short film and their comments regarding boarding and how much they loved it were wonderful to hear.

I know I am doing my job well when the children are all happy and the boarding house is full.  I would like every night to be like a Wednesday when we had 50 children in the house and the atmosphere was lovely.
