‘Step back in time’ with Mrs Chaplin

Year 3 had a treat this morning, when Sally Chaplin visited them to tell them how life was at Vinehall in the time of Lord and Lady Ashton.  The Ashtons lived at Vinehall between 1902 and 1938, before it became a school.  Mrs Chaplin was very impressed with how well the children listened to her as she described where, for example,  Lord Ashton kept his car (the locker area), or where Lord and Lady Ashton had their dining room (the head’s office).

Did you know that Lady Ashton used to wash her chickens in what is now the boys’ washroom upstairs?  Imagine the dancing in the front hall, with a giant Christmas tree in the corner by the front office, lit with candles…

Thank you once again, Mrs Chaplin, for helping us to keep the important history of our school well and truly alive.
