The Board of Governors is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Jonathan ‘Joff’ Powis as the new Head of Vinehall School from September 2017. Joff is currently the Deputy Head and Head of Geography at the highly regarded Papplewick School in Ascot, where he has risen steadily through the ranks since joining Papplewick from Sandroyd School in 2000. Joff will join Vinehall with his wife, Liz, and their four sons, Freddy (nine), Henry (eight), Charlie (six) and Arthur (two).

The Board was impressed by Joff’s clear dedication to academic rigour, where realising the full potential of every individual child is paramount, together with his calm, determined and collaborative style of leadership. We are confident that Joff will deliver the very best prep school boarding education for those in his care.

Joff is highly qualified for the role. He was educated at Salisbury Cathedral School and Sherborne School before reading Geography at the University of Leeds, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. Following this, he gained a Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and achieved Qualified Teacher Status. Most recently he achieved the National Professional Qualification for Headship. Joff is also an ISI Boarding Team Inspector.

Joff is a rare breed of all-rounder, from coaching rugby, cricket and football, to directing school musicals and singing tenor in the school choir. He also plays the trumpet and piano, and counts skiing, sailing, canoeing and mountain-biking amongst his hobbies.
