Friday, 10th October 2014 saw 48 local Year 5 primary school children attend Vinehall to experience a range of mathematical activities entitled ‘Keeping it in proportion’.

The children from Benenden, Catsfield, Etchingham, Hurst Green, Lambershurst, Mark Cross, Sedlescombe primary schools along with several Vinehall pupils took part in activities from paper folding to smoothie making, all focussing on the same theme of Ratio and Proportion.

The challenge of the day was to show resilience whilst trying risk-taking strategies with their maths in a very hands-on environment. The overall challenge was won by the team ‘Waller’s Wonders’ from Lamberhurst C of E Primary School, who won vouchers for school books from Waterstones.

As the pupils were leaving at the end of the event, one child from Mark Cross C of E Primary school was heard to comment ‘I never knew maths could be so fun, it was excellent!’

The Vinehall Maths Challenge Day 2015 returns in Michaelmas Term next year.
