The highlight to the start of the Michaelmas term was the opening of the newly renovated and refurbished school theatre, which has been renamed The Chaplin Theatre in recognition of the dedication of former Headmaster David Chaplin OBE. David’s vision and commitment to the performing arts at Vinehall over his 25 year tenure as Headmaster raised the standard of provision and turned the vision of a theatre at Vinehall into reality. Following an opening ceremony for pupils on 4th September, a champagne reception and gala evening for parents, guests, governors and staff took place on 6th September. David Chaplin provided a brief history of performing arts at the school, complete with video clips from past productions and a performance of ‘Summertime’ by former pupil Caroline Jones. David’s son Tom, lead singer of Keane and a former Vinehall pupil, then took to the stage and sang a collection of Keane hits, some covers and two of his new solo project songs which will appear on his forthcoming album to a packed and very appreciative audience. The comfortable, raked seating, new flooring, improved lighting and acoustic canopy will ensure that Vinehall’s renowned tradition of excellence in the arts will flourish for future generations of pupils.
