Last Sunday, a group of Vinehall girls attended the IAPS National Swimming Finals in Crawley. Having successfully progressed through the qualifying rounds at Eastbourne Sovereign Centre last term, the team faced incredibly stiff competition in their heats.

The team consisted of eight girls, who competed in the Under 12 and Under 13 freestyle relay events, as well as qualifying two individual swimmers for the Under 12 Butterfly and Under 13 Freestyle events.

The U13 freestyle relay team of Emily Everist, India Jarrett-Potts,
Emily Fosbery and Carla Maddison finished in an excellent 11th   place overall, and the U12 team of Louisa Long, Sophia Govett, Sophie Lerpiniere and Elysia Wright finishing in a superb 9th position. Both teams achieved new personal bests at the finals.

In the individual categories, both Emily Everist in the U13 freestyle and Louisa Long in the U12 butterfly qualified for the A finals, outstanding achievements in themselves. Emily Everist
produced another personal best to finish in 8th place, and Louisa Long also went faster than she had ever swum before to finish in a superb 6th place.

Vinehall’s swimming coach Derek Guy said “We are all hugely proud of the girls and their achievements. To reach the National Finals is a great achievement in itself, but to come away with such excellent results is a real testament to all their hard training over the last year.”
