The Music Society – International Concert Series – 29th Season

The Twenty-Nineth Season of International Concerts at Vinehall continues to offer music-lovers the opportunity to experience chamber music of the highest quality without the need to go to London!

As usual, we have a tremendous mix of older established musicians and ensembles along with some younger and new faces; who like so many who have performed here, will go on to become distinguished artists of the future.  We welcome music lovers from Kent, Sussex and beyond to the Chaplin Theatre, which is a 240 seat purpose-built venue with excellent acoustics, visibility and also benefits from a superb Bosendorfer piano.

October: The season begins on Saturday 7th October with the return of the outstanding Baroque ensemble LA SERENISSIMA, performing works by Vivaldi, Caldara, Tartini and Brescianello. Adrian Chandler (violin) and his ensemble have recently achieved the distinction of their ‘Four Seasons’ CD being the Editor’s Choice in Gramophone Magazine; quite an achievement in such a crowded market.

November: On Saturday 11th November we welcome the talented DORIC STRING QUARTET for performances of works by Haydn, Mendelssohn and Brahms. “This is a superb ensemble, intelligent, technically brilliant, wonderfully balanced.” The Times, 2016

The world famous cellist STEVEN ISSERLIS needs little introduction! Accompanied by the distinguished Hungarian pianist DÉNES VÁRJON, they will perform works by Schumann, Chopin and Schubert, using an 1866 Erard piano, kindly loaned from the Finchcocks Collection. This will be quite unmissable!

Our Sunday afternoon concert in February features three renowned international performers, who have all performed at Vinehall before and now together!  EMMA JOHNSON (Clarinet), FINGHIN COLLINS (Piano) and MAXIM RYSANOV (Viola) will perform works by Britten and Weber with Schumann’s ‘Fairy Tales’ for the trio starting the concert and ending with Mozart’s much-loved ‘Kegelstatt’ Trio.

In March, one of the most talented and exciting of pianists returns to Vinehall. YEVGENY SUDBIN will perform works by Haydn, Beethoven, Scarlatti, Medtner, Mozart and his own arrangement of Saint-Saëns ‘Danse Macabre’ which I’m sure will have us all enthralled.

In May, we welcome ENDYMION. “Endymion always communicate the pleasure they experience in music making” (The Times) and the Sunday Times referred to the brilliant Endymion.” Led by Krisia Osostowicz of the Dante Quartet, these exceptionally talented musicians will perform works by Mozart, Dvorak and Dohnanyi’s tremendous Sextet for Clarinet, Horn, Piano and String Trio.

Our final concert of the season is on Saturday 9th June, when we will welcome back one of the most popular of vocal groups, VOCES8. They will entertain us with an eclectic and varied programme based around the theme of ‘Dance’. As usual, we hope that you will picnic in the grounds beforehand and join us for complimentary Pimm’s at 6.40 p.m.

The standard price of £20 (including refreshments) is for all concerts but please consider the much cheaper five or six concert options, and of course the full season ticket which offers a massive saving and works out at an extremely reasonable £14.28 per concert. The ticket price for children and students remains at only £10 as it is so important to encourage the next generation of music lovers. We are very proud to attract such wonderful artists down to this part of Sussex and are very grateful to our sponsors, without whom the ticket prices would have to rise substantially.

I very much look forward to welcoming you to the Twenty-Ninth Season at Vinehall and do hope that you find our programme to be of interest to you and your friends. If you would like tickets then please complete the booking form in the leaflet. We do, of course, take bookings by post, telephone, e-mail or fax throughout the season.

Best wishes
