Set in 47 acres of parkland on the East Sussex/Kent border, Vinehall School nurtures and educates boys and girls aged 2 to 13.
We have a long tradition of providing an outstanding education and exceptional opportunities for personal development for day and boarding pupils, with highly qualified teachers and staff providing fantastic pastoral care.
All pupils at Vinehall School enjoy use of our excellent facilities including our recently refurbished theatre, music rooms, indoor swimming pool, sports fields, outdoor learning and play areas and woodlands.
Vinehall has a well-deserved reputation for helping all pupils to achieve their potential in academics, the arts, sports and other interests.
We have a 100% pass rate at Common Entrance, a high Scholarship success rate, an orchestra, a thriving drama department and tremendous results on the sports field against other schools locally and in the National Prep School championships.
For parents unable to do the school-run themselves, our minibuses for day pupils and flexi-boarders provide a convenient alternative transport service from Cranbrook, Heathfield, Wadhurst, Eastbourne, Mayfield and Hastings.
For our weekly and full-time boarders we are well connected by road, rail and air to the region, London and London airports (including Gatwick, Heathrow, London City and Stansted).
Our Prep School comprises Years 3 to 8, with the majority of children moving through from Year 2 in our Pre-Prep.
Years 3, 4 and 5 are referred to as ‘Juniors’ and Years 6, 7 and 8 as ‘Seniors’.
Years 3 -6 consist of two parallel classes, expanding to three parallel classes for Years 7 -8.
There is a maximum class size of 18 in all year groups. The form structure, with its streaming and setting, is carefully designed to maximise each child’s individual potential.
For all year groups, the curriculum is enriched by a variety of educational trips throughout the year.
Cognitive Ability Tests (CATS) are completed annually for children in Year 4 -7, which provide good indicators of future potential and are useful diagnostic tools.
We have a 100% pass rate for Common Entrance and a large number of our pupils achieve Scholarships to their chosen Senior School.
In the Autumn and Spring terms the main team games for boys are Football, Rugby and Hockey, and for girls are Hockey and Netball.
In the Summer Term, boys play Cricket and Tennis and girls play Rounders and Tennis.
Athletics, Swimming and Gymnastics are also important sports throughout the year, with teams representing the School through all age groups for boys and girls.
We ensure that all children are given a chance to represent the School and this usually means there are at least two teams in each year group. All our pupils have the opportunity to play in mixed ability teams without over-emphasising the importance of the final result.
Teams in all but the very youngest age groups compete most successfully in inter-school matches, which take place on Wednesday afternoons and occasional Saturdays.
Vinehall has an outstanding reputation for sporting excellence, winning medals almost every year at national IAPS events, and many pupils train and compete with county and regional squads.
The School has its own nine-hole Golf Course, extensive playing fields and a floodlit all-weather Hockey Pitch.
There is also an Indoor Sports Complex, which includes a Sports Hall, a gymnastics training hall and an indoor Swimming Pool.
There are indoor Cricket Nets, as well as facilities for Badminton, Basketball, Archery and Judo.
Several specialist coaches in Gymnastics, Swimming, Judo and Tennis and Dance augment the School’s games-coaching staff.
Drama, Music & Art
Drama features strongly in the life of the school with all children having drama lessons up to Year 6 and in these they learn to move freely, explore their feelings and to express themselves confidently.
There are several full productions staged each year so that the majority of children have the opportunity to perform in costume, on stage, before an audience.
Music is an important part of Vinehall school life and all year groups are taught class music for an hour each week within the teaching timetable and music features in the school’s calendar through a wide range of concerts.
In addition, children are encouraged to join choirs and most children learn at least one instrument.
Many children are attracted to Vinehall for the music alone and learn up to three instruments, gaining scholarships to senior schools e.g. Eastbourne, Tonbridge and Wycombe Abbey.
Art is enjoyed by all the children and high standards are attained. Children’s work is displayed throughout the School. There are regular exhibitions at school and in the local community, and opportunities for children to work with visiting artists. Educational trips take place both within the UK and abroad.

A broad selection of extra-curricular activities are offered to expose the children to a wide variety of experiences and to enhance their abilities in sports. 15-20 different clubs are offered, which vary term by term. There is also a programme of Saturday morning activities too.
