Rye Studio School was the opening venue for the Rwanda Aid Photography Exhibition 13-28.9.14, featuring the work of Rwandan students and by professional photographer Alessandro Quisi and by Richard Follett, Headmaster, on his Easter holiday project in this fascinating part of Africa. Seven penniless young people from the streets of south-western Rwanda enjoyed one week’s training and have since formed a small business cooperative. Thanks to the generosity of a Vinehall parent, each new budding photographer has his/her own camera, and they have a small studio in which to work.
The exhibition moved on to the 1066 Gallery in Battle and from there it will feature in Kigali, Rwanda, Basingstoke and various locations in London before a special celebratory evening at the Gresham Centre on 4.12.14. Sales of the photos, postcards and calendars have been very positive and the proceeds will further the excellent work carried out by David Chaplin OBE, ex Headmaster, and his team.
