David Chaplin, Headmaster at Vinehall School 1977-2002, has received an OBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List. Staff, pupils, parents and governors at Vinehall are delighted by this acknowledgement of so many years of dedicated service to the people of Rwanda.
When a Vinehall parent went to work in Rwanda, David used this experience to foster links and support existing charities in this remote and troubled part of the South West African continent. After his retirement in 2002 and numerous visits to Rwanda, David set up the Rwanda Aid charity in 2008. Vinehall School has maintained its strong links with the charity and supported many projects.
David Chaplin’s ‘Order of the British Empire’ is recognition and endorsement of his incredible service, which he believes has been supported by ‘so many wonderful people, both in the United Kingdom and in Rwanda’.
